Guide in Buying Keyless Door Locks

10/11/2014 Back To Blog

Keyless door entry is often seen in commercial settings and offices. However, an increasing number of home owners are now adopting this in their homes. While keyless door locks are more expensive, they come with several benefits. The number one advantage of using keyless door entry system is that it provides a higher level of security compared to traditional home locks. Since they don’t use keys, they are resistant to picking and bumping. Moreover, there’s no need to worry about losing your keys as they are not required. When buying keyless security door locks, it’s important that you learn about your options so you can decide which one is best for you. There are generally four types of keyless door system that you can choose from.

Mechanical Keyless Entry

You may set a code that needs to be entered on the door’s keypad each time you get inside your house. The code can be changed as frequently as you want, which is recommended to prevent hackers or burglars from guessing or stealing the code. However, this could be difficult if you’re a forgetful person. Failure to remember the code and entering the incorrect code repeatedly may cause you to be locked out.

Electric Keyless System

As the name suggests, it runs through electricity or batteries. If running through electricity, it’s recommended to find one that comes with a backup battery so you would have access in case of power outage. Like the mechanical keyless entry, it also requires a code to open the door, although the mechanical option does not run on batteries or electricity.

Remote Keyless System

A key fob or a remote control is used in order to open the door. Clicking the button on the fob will open the door even from a distance. This works like the automatic garage doors that open upon clicking the button of the garage door opener’s remote.

Fingerprint Keyless Entry

This is the most expensive of all options, yet, it’s also the most secure. Your fingerprint will be saved on the system so that only you or anyone with a fingerprint saved will be able to open the door. We all have unique fingerprints so it’s not possible to open it using another person’s fingerprint. There are no codes or key fob needed. Just make sure that you are using the right finger to be scanned.
